SMAA Camp 2009 an Enormous Success!
Martial Artists from nearly every corner of our great nation
converged in St. Peter’s, MO for 12 hours each day over
four days to max out the martial arts fun meter!  Grand
Masters with over 50 years in the martial arts were on
hand with their juniors to teach courses on Judo, MMA,
Jiu-Jitsu, Best Practices in Cultivating Preschool Age
Programs, Tai Chi, Kenjutsu, Jeet Kune Do Concepts, Tae
Kwon Do, Karate, Martial Medical Science, Judo,
Professional Kickboxing, et al.  Participants walked away
with a bitter sweet sense of soreness in learning and
reviewing techniques they can really use on the street or on
the mat.  Joye Petty, Kyoju Dairi for the Great State of
Texas and Southwestern U.S., made her instruction debut
at SMAA Camp earning numerous accolades for her
insights and outstanding delivery of course content.
Specially requested for her business acumen and super
skills with preschool age children, she was already in
demand by many masters in the Southwest when she was
selected to teach this year.  By the end of camp, she and
Senior Master Worley were invited to teach seminars in the
Pacific Northwest because of their dynamic instruction
methods and expertise. Please visit the website for more
information about this great organization -

Swaying Hearts North and South:
As it has become a tradition, Heart House of Austin hosted
Wind Shadow Martial Arts seminars for easily over 100
children this summer!  With about a dozen volunteer staff
members involved in our cooperative learning program,
Wind Shadow Martial Arts lifted the spirits of kids through
empowerment and inspiration to achieve!  Looking ahead
to return visits with the children and staff, our sister
company has been invited to facilitate a team building event
for staff members at both locations in the future.

UT Summer Camp for Gifted and Talented Students
Many thanks are owed to the faculty and staff of the
University of Texas at Austin for hosting our Predator
Awareness/Avoidance seminar!  Program Manager Jason
Torres, who is also a local Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor,
graciously afforded Wind Shadow Martial Arts some
quality time with future leaders from around the country in
enabling them to stay safe when it comes to would-be
predators.  The best and brightest kids from Texas,
Louisiana, and other great states across our nation were on
hand for fun, fitness, and safety skills.  We are already
looking forward to next year!

Soaring to New Heights:  Little Ninja and Wind Shadow
Warriors Graduate!  Filled to the rim with thrills, four dozen
students rose to the next level of responsibility in their
respective programs!  Be sure to congratulate them on sight.
We’re ever so proud of them and especially our record
breakers!!!  Children at our campuses in Pflugerville, Round
Rock, Austin, and Brushy Creek surely made their parents
swell with pride as they showed off their new skills with mile-
wide smiles.  Whether it was our shining stars from the
Downs Syndrome Association of Texas, the Patterson-Reveles
(Mixed Martial Arts) Project, or Little Ninja programs across
nearly every
Children’s Courtyard and KidsRKids campus in
our territory, true talent shined with utter brilliance!

Joye Petty Recognized for Martial Arts Excellence!
Our own co-founder earned the SMAA 2009 Martial Arts
Excellence award last month for her outstanding achievements
in the martial arts as a student, instructor, coach, competitor,
and mentor.  We are most definitely overJOYED with her
achievement.  Out of 200+ potential recipients, she was one of
only two to earn an award this year at the SMAA banquet.

Moving Up the Ladder of Leadership
Effective May 2009, Joye and Clay ascended to higher levels
of martial arts responsibility in the SMAA.  Joye was selected
as Kyoju Dairi (regional leader) for Texas and the
Southwestern U.S. in the wake of Clay’s appointment to the
global post as one of four Yudansha Taigu (master’s council).
They are both set to serve one year terms and could be
selected to serve additional time if deemed in the best interests
of the SMAA.
